2012 in Review

As with everything recently, it seems like 2012 flew by. I am much busier in grad school, so I have stretches of time where school is the only thing I’m really doing – but I had the chance to do some great things this past year and am excited to see what happens in 2013! January – Sugarloaf Craft Festival;
Turned 22

February – MegaCon 2012 [met Stan Lee!];
Bond-themed Casino Party!

March – Spring Break in Seattle!

April – GMU One-Day Frisbee Tournament [my team got 2nd!];
Say Anything at The Black Cat in DC; National Science & Engineering Festival in DC;
Swan Lake ballet at NOVA;
Grandpa passed away

May – Presented poster at the Vision Sciences Society Conference in Naples, FL;
visited Kristy in Austin, TX;
Presented poster at Association for Psychological Science conference in Chicago, IL

June – Summer internship at Dahlgren Naval Research base;
Coppelia ballet at the Kennedy Center;
UCF Alumni event at the Florida House in DC [got to meet UCF President Hitt!];
visited Virginia Beach with the other interns [and rode the slingshot thrill ride; pure adrenaline];
HBO’s The Newsroom premiered [yes, this was a significant event of my year];

July – Visited Concert-Buddy Robert in Nashville

August – Ended summer internship;
tubing on the Rappahanock River;
started year two of grad school

September – Started taking adult ballet classes;
took an online course on Gamification through Cousera;
took a Discover SCUBA Diving class;
National Book Festival on the DC National Mall [got books signed by two of my favorite authors: Maggie Steifvater and David Levithan!];
my sister Jennifer came to visit me!

October – Got to see President Obama at GMU [and was first in line to get tix!];
Masquerade Party at the Mansion on O Street;
Cinderella ballet at the Kennedy Center;
Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Conference in Boston, MA;
Hurricane Sandy hit the northeast […I’ve had more hurricanes hit me in grad school than when I was in undergrad – in FL.]

November – Ice skating with old roomie Jamie!;
Allison/Patrick’s wedding;
Romeo and Juliet ballet at the Kennedy Center;
Good-friend Jen came to visit – and we made our own Thanksgiving feast!

December – Hosted a successful white elephant party;
Nutcracker ballet at the Kennedy Center;
longest visit to FL since starting grad school [3 weeks!]

–Visited 5 new cities
–Attended 3 conferences
–Saw 5 ballets, 1 concert
A great year all around!
